DOGGIE Olympics, June 28 & 29 in Long Beach, WA

The first DOGGIE Olympics took place just before our dog, D.O.G. died-so it had to be in 2004.   We dressed D.O.G. up in some kind of outfit that caused her (and for some reason, me!) great embarrassment, and took her down to watch the show.  It was a blast even that first year, and the event has grown bigger and better every year.  The Doggie Olympics is a volunteer effort of the Long Beach Merchants Association.  The event is heart-warming and it’s hilarious to watch the owners with their dogs fully participating in each event.  It’s as much a Silly Dog Owner’s Olympics as a Doggie event! It is just such a clever concept worthy of participation even if it’s just to watch the wonderful interaction between dogs, eager to please, but often shy and their owners, usually not shy! The events on Saturday include:

  • What, No Ducks? Ball Toss
  • Nadia Comaneci Agility
  • Rip Van Winkle Sleep Off
  • Dunking For Dogs
  • Filla Fuller Brush Shedding
  • Luciano Pavarotti Commemorative Sing-Off
  • Babe Ruth Obedience Baseball
  • I’ve Got Rhythm Musical Sit
  • Peanut Butter Lick
  • Frisbee Throw
  • Who’s Your Daddy?
  • Doggie Dash

The Mission of the Doggie Olympic Games is to provide an event where owners and dogs of all ages, sizes, shapes and abilities can bond, play and laugh together in a friendly, competitive environment and to provide education for responsible pet ownership. So check out the website and come play either as a spectator or with your pet! Boreas Inn  has  a room open for a Saturday only that we will make pet friendly just for the DOGGIE Olympics!
